Hi,

We're in the final run-up to submitting an LGM mini-conference
proposal for Linux Conf AU 2010.
http://www.lca2010.org.nz/
(The general call for miniconfs is at http://www.lca2010.org.nz/media/
news/47 )

Linux.conf.au has a rich history of miniconfs, and to me the format
of a full day of a single track lends itself extremely well to giving
attendees a good bit of the "LGM experience." To me this seems like
it would be a much more appropriate "mini" than a track during the
main conference, etc.

Some of the thinking is that the location can allow people who've not
been able to attend the full LGMs to get a taste of the experience
and perhaps even get inspired to make it to LGM5. This year
linux.conf.au is being held in Wellington, New Zealand. I've been
told that it is very accessible (distance, cost, etc.) for Oceana and
probably much of the Pacific Rim. Also, my rough calculations place
New Zealand as the closest piece of land to being on the exact far
side of the globe from Brussels, and thus a very good balancing point.

There has been a lot of interest since I stated mentioning the
possibility. In fact, Donna Benjamin was also working on the exact
same thing so we decided to join forces on the proposal. I also see
the potential in bringing in more users and artists, since a single
day item is a bit easier to lure them away to rather than the full
three-day, six-track, techie main conference.

So would it be appropriate to call this proposal "LGM-Mini" (or "LGM-
Mini at linux.conf.au"), or should I try to use some different title for
the miniconf? Additionally, are there any people interested in
attending and/or speaking if it gets accepted?

Thanks.
