first, some general considerations you may or may not want to read...
i'm not sure that the LGM does already have a home base in montreal.
the original idea that crystallized from the first LGMs was to have an alternation between north america and europe.
those are the "places" where most of the LG developers, community members and users are currently located.
we tried (and as fare i can tell we are still trying) to go for a three year turnover:
- europe
- north america (which may change to america?)
- elsewhere (where elsewhere is mostly understood as asia or a place nearer to australia)
2009 should have been an "elsewhere" year and we are re-trying to have an elsewhere LGM next year.
also, there was indeed a proposal / request to define a fix interval for the LGM in montreal, but this is more due to the fact that -- for several reasons only the US american citizens can change -- the only country we can go in north america is canada and the place we found there is montreal.
now, to the main point:

this is one of my main concerns, too (with the difference that i'm planning to attend an eventual LGM in vietnam and ask my boss for a one month non paid vacation to make it worth to go there!).
we have two wonderful LGM behind us, both on the side of the organization and of the attending people. i have no worries about hong phuc's talents as organizer, but i want to make sure that the LG actors will be there!
i've perceived the willing to attend from some team members, so i'm basically positive about it, but i'm still not sure whether a critical mass can be achieved.
would it make sens to create a form where people who attended the last two LGMs could express their intention to attend or not a LGM taking place in vietnam, brazil or canada?
ciao
