I was already afraid such an approach would be necessary, however, I've
just found the weblog post of Rodrigo mentioning libgnomeservice [1].
This might just be exactly what I've been looking for, though I've not
yet had the time to test it. Having this kind of activation would be
handy in reducing the number of startup daemons AFAICT.
