Why not? I don't see how you equate /var to "lose after reboot". There is 
a lot of data in /var/lib and /var/spool that isn't deleted.

In fact, even /var/tmp isn't supposed to be deleted right after a reboot. 

We can just save it in /var/lib/dbus-1/machine-id.
