dbus won't back up

Can you add files to exclude.  I'm guessing you are talking about 
$HOME/.dbus.
If so, then exclude $HOME/.dbus from the backup.

$ cd
$ ls -ld .dbus
drwx------ 3 root root 4096 Jan 14 07:51 .dbus/
mwette$
