Maybe I'm not completely understanding the situation, but are
you sure that's necessary?  Hotpluggable devices can appear
or disappear between a sleep and wakeup, and the desktop stack
will get notification of that as expected, and any other 
directories shouldn't change over a sleep/resume cycle, should
they?  As such, what would be the justification for rescanning
a directory, *unless* that directory happens to be just created
by mounting a removable device that appeared during the sleep /
resume cycle?
