What about:

		len = snprintf(master->unique, master->unique_len,
			"platform:%s:%02d", dev->platformdev->name, dev->platformdev->id);

(ie. using the id field from struct platform_device)..

Perhaps this is more analogous to using pci bus # / slot / func?
