Is it possible to use Flatpak in applications such as VLC Media Player?

Well, I ask the question because of curiosity, I contacted VLC developers to know if they are interested in distributing VLC as a Flatpak package in the future, however Felix Paul Kühne answer was:


"We are certainly interesting in providing VLC as a cross-distribution binary package for Linux. However, flatpak is not suitable for VLC at this point, as it doesn't allow DVD, BlurRay or DVB playback and the flatpak developers are unwilling to fix those limitations of their approach."

Especially the last line caught my attention. that's true?
I have not been able to find a discussion thread about it and understand that Flatpak is a framework that is in active development and not yet has all the features expected.
