Is it possible to install and use Flatpak as a non-root user?

Today, I tried using the "--user" flag as a non-root user, outside of
any namespace, and it worked!

My apologies for not trying this sooner.  Between my original email
(on Jan 18) and the above reply (on Jan 30), I had deleted my
self-built installation of Flatpak and shifted my attention to other
tasks.

Thanks to everyone who offered assistance.

Have you thought about adding the --user flag to the list of
application options that is displayed when a user runs flatpak --help?
