Some improvements to the Flatpak format
more specific ideas on how the two improvements can be implemented:
I think these improvements are viable. They are not very complex and can
be implemented without requiring major changes to the Flatpak format. Also,
these improvements would be beneficial to users as it would make it easier
for them to customize their Flatpak apps and keep them up to date.
Overall, I think these improvements would be a worthy improvement for the
Flatpak format.
Better support for user settings:
- Add a separate directory for user settings in Flatpak format.
- Allow users to customize their user settings using a text editor or
graphical utility.
- Save user settings in a standard format such as JSON or YAML.
- Allow Flatpak apps to access the user's user settings.
Better support for updates:
- Add an automatic update mechanism to the Flatpak format.
- Allow users to update their Flatpak apps manually.
- Log Flatpak app updates to a central repository.
- Allow users to install up-to-date Flatpak apps from a central
repository.
Better support for user settings: Flatpak currently does not support good
user settings. This can cause problems for users who want to customize
their Flatpak apps. A viable improvement would be to add support for user
settings to the Flatpak format. This would allow users to customize their
Flatpak apps without having to tinker with the app's code.
Better support for updates: Flatpak does not currently support good
updates. This can cause problems for users who want to keep their Flatpak
apps up to date. A viable improvement would be to add support for updates
to the Flatpak format. This would allow users to update their Flatpak apps
automatically without having to tinker with the app's code.
Better documentation: Flatpak currently doesn't have good documentation.
This can cause problems for users trying to learn how to use the Flatpak
format. A viable improvement would be to improve the Flatpak format
documentation. This would make it easier for users to learn how to use the
Flatpak format and solve problems.
