[Fontconfig] problem building 2.2.96

[Albert Vernon Smith]

I'm trying to build fontconfig 2.2.96 on a RedHat box, and I am 
currently unable to get it compile it.  From the log (relevant slice 
below), I am unable to figure what the problem might be.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
