Hi!

I have been in discussion with several other accessibility projects to
work on a common API for speech synthesis and speech recognition drivers.

I suggested to discuss this on a mailing list and to found a new list at
freedesktop.org for this purpose. Since there are also a number of other
accessibility related areas where cooperation is important, it would be
nice to have a mailing list like accessibility at freedesktop.org for this
purpose. We could also use the list to discuss topics like accessibility
in the X server etc.

The informal talks leading to this discussion have included developers
from the following projects and companies:

GNOME Accessibility
KDE Accessibility
Mozilla Accessibility
FSG Accessibility Workgroup
SpeechDispatcher
Sphinx
BRASS
FreeTTS
ViaVoice
IBM
Sun Microsystems
SuSE/Novell

I hope that accessibility at freedesktop.org will be a place where we can
discuss new interoperable accessibility APIs, which might later be
propagated to freestandards.org once they are stable and in common use.

Whom should we best contact about creating such a mailing list?

Olaf
