The reason why this worked in older versions is that the following command is
valid:
C:/path/to/sed

But the follwing isn't:
C:/path/to/sed | C:/path/to/sed

The following are also valid:
"C:/path/to/sed" | "C:/path/to/sed"
C:\path\to\sed" | C:\path\to\sed
