So,

I made a release of gst-player by request of Steve.
It's version 0.4.0, dubbed "Farting Sparks".

So is this something we want to start announcing officially, and on 
freshmeat, and so on ?

For those who want to try it, it's up at

http://gstreamer.net/releases/0.4.0/src/

And RPMS for it are in the apt repository.  Check 
http://gstreamer.net/releases/redhat/
follow the instructions there, and in the end try
apt-get install gstreamer-player

or even
apt-get install gstreamer-universe to get every gstreamer-related package.
