I'd like to know why it doesn't work. If you want, we can spend some
time trying to fix it.

If gst-player works fine for you, good, keep on using it.

If the driver is broken, the driver should be fixed, really. You can
force the sample rate with:
audio.force_rate:48000 in ~/.gnome2/totem_config
