[gst-devel] Help for a newbe

Hi!

My name is Bob Stewart.  I am preparing to create a plugin that supports
an audio/video codec and file format that the company I work for came up
with.  To start off this effort I have downloaded and installed gstreamer
core 0.8.4, gst-plugins 0.8.3, and gst-player 0.8.0.  Additionally I have
also installed numerous third party libraries in order to enable the various
plugins (codecs) that are supported.  I wanted to see how a working
gst-player
behaved using a few vanilla .avi files along with a generic "X" output
before
I undertook the challange of coming up with the new codec plugin.

My problem is, I hope a simple one, that when I execute gst-player it
comes up fine and displays it's little splash screen correctly.  However
when I try and play the simple .avi files I hear the audio, but do not see
any of the video.  The video is blank.

Any suggestions?

My system configuration is:

Base OS:  RedHat Linux 9.0
XFree86:  Version 4.4.0 (Binary distribution:  Linux-ix86-glibc23)
Gnome:    Version 2.6.2
