FWIW - there are already base gst-register and gst-launch and friends
that are glib-only frontends for the versioned ones.  This is so the
tools don't have to change across parallel installable versions and thus
the manual and FAQ don't end up being more confusing than they really
are.

So, the patch should at the very least look at these tools, and use the
same mechanism to determine lib-ism and then use the correct version of
everything.
