Right, I agree it's confusing, which is why I want to get this change
upstream so that Fedora users will be able to cut n' paste commands from
documentation or IRC, etc.

Hm, I'm not sure what you mean. How would say gst-launch know whether
you want to use your 32 bit plugins or your 64 bit plugins?
