You'll need libfaad2, which you can get from http://audiocoding.com/.
Packages for any distro are available at random places (e.g. freshrpms
for Fedora). Then you'll need to re-compile gst-plugins, but only
ext/faad/, and install that and re-run gst-register (it should now find
the 'faad' element). You can also download gst-plugins-extra-audio from
freshrpms, which includes the 'faad' element (afaik). You can then
decode m4a files.
