Thoggen 0.7.1 has just been released. Get it from:

This release is a bug fix release which primarily fixes ripping of
region 1 DVD titles in 4:3 format.

What is Thoggen?
------------------------

Thoggen is a DVD backup utility ("DVD ripper") for Linux, based on Gtk+
and GStreamer. It creates ogg/theora video files and features an
extremely intuitive and easy to use interface. Thoggen supports picture
cropping and resizing.

 * Fix problem with Region 1 (North America)
   DVD titles in non-widescreen 4:3 format
   (Thoggen would just hang when starting
   the rip and do nothing).

 * Fix problem with metadata/tags containing
   characters that need to be escaped, such
   as '&'

 * Misc. compiler warning/portability fixes.
