Gstreamer-1.0 installation error

I've encountered this before, and my solution as well was to set
LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
I pretty much dislike setting that.

What's odd, however, is that /usr/local/lib actually IS in my library
search path by default, as on most (all?) ubuntu installations.
This is reflected in: /etc/ld.so.conf.d/libc.conf

I'm still really confused by this issue...
