How do I migrate to GStreamer 1.0.5?

Thanks everyone.

I did not realise that I needed to set those environment variables 
/before/ compiling the second package.  Now that I have done so (and 
also built the  good plugins) I can now report that a test video I have 
made does have both sound and picture for the entire duration of the 
recording. "One small step ...".

Again, many thanks for your help.
