Thanks Tim,
I had rebooted during the process - but rebooting again cured the
problem. I guess that I must have rebooted too soon, before some vital
clear-up.
My next challenge is to build the ugly plugins (I want to try the
x264enc). Should I just be able to run ./configure and make install?
