What is the different between gstreamer-1.0-x86-1.2.1-merge-modules.zip and gstreamer-1.0-x86-1.2.1.msi?

The merge modules zip file contains merge modules that you can integrate
into your own MSI installer. The MSI one is the installer with the
runtime files, the other MSI file there contains the headers and other
development files.

GSTREAMER_1_0_ROOT_X86, the other one is used by binaries not provided
by the GStreamer project.
