Update textoverlay on paused video

[Ralph]

I have a paused pipeline displaying some video.  If I change the Text
property on textoverlay element, the text will not be updated on the screen
until I perform a seek or start playing.  Calling Expose() on the sink has
no effect as it simply displays the last rendered frame.

How can I force the pipeline to update the text on a paused frame?

I'm using GStreamer 0.10.35 on Windows (OSSBuild-vs2010 2012.06.15 with
.NET4 C# bindings)
