Using the CairoContext from cairooverlay element

I actually tried that as well with the same results.  After some help on IRC
from benzea and lazka, I think the problem is  this bug
<https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=694604>  .  There is a work
around using ctypes on the bug ticket, but I don't know enough about the
bindings to predict how fragile it might be.

For now, I'm working around it using gdkpixbufoverlay and will hopefully
address it down the road.
