Feeding Android emulator via v4l2sink creates distortion (image squashed)

When simply feeding the stock Android emulator with videotestsrc, for
example, the image is sideways.  E.g. something like:

  $ gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc ! v4l2sink device=/dev/video0

The "videoflip" tool will rotate it, but then the resulting image becomes
smashed.  It looks as if the width and height swapped.  How can this be
remedied?  Here is a shell script that demonstrates the problem:
