Problem building Gstreamer 1.11.2 from source

I have configured, built and sudo make install all the components of
gstreamer 1 11.2
why when I enter gst-launch-1.0 --version do I get back:
gst-launch-1.0 version 1.11.2
GStreamer 1.8.3
Unknown package origin
Any help greatly appreciated.
