ever increasing latency with pulsesrc

I'm using Gstreamer gst-launch to obtain audio from pulse audio under
Ubuntu. When I use pulsesrc I experience ever increasing latency that builds
up to a several seconds over 10-20 minutes or so. This is somewhat dependent
on the actual audio source, e.g. a youtube video in Firefox seems to display
this problem to a greater extent than when I play audio files using VLC.
When I switch to using alsasrc device=pulse the latency never develops. What
might be causing this problem? Can I set some pulsesrc property to prevent
this problem?
