Q: Gstreamer Application

 Hello,

As I undertnad, the gstreamer is a framework , and
 above it I can develop a multimedia application.
 Just to get the general idea: if I want to use a gstreamer
application which implements MPEG-TS, I see that there are plug-in
(application?) which implement in :
 http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/documentation/plugins.html

But Why are they called plug-in - and not application ?
