That's even better example than mine. It's all OK when UUID identifies
preferences that can be easily restored, but if / when pref in question
has more direct impact on HW, it may get dangerous. Like, say, faulty CD
Writer that doesn't support certain speeds, but doesn't error out on
them, then dropping uniqueness can have rather nasty effects on apps
trying to set device up.
