Hi,

I cannot reproduce this; this is what I'm getting on Fedora with what is
close to HAL CVS (hal-0.4.0-10)

[root at davidz ~]# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing cached reads: 1400 MB in 2.00 seconds = 700.11 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 96 MB in 3.01 seconds = 31.89 MB/sec
[root at davidz ~]# service haldaemon stop
Stopping HAL daemon: [ OK ]
[root at davidz ~]# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing cached reads: 1304 MB in 2.00 seconds = 652.10 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 102 MB in 3.01 seconds = 33.94 MB/sec
[root at davidz ~]# service haldaemon start
Starting HAL daemon: [ OK ]
[root at davidz ~]# hdparm -tT /dev/hda

/dev/hda:
 Timing cached reads: 1428 MB in 2.00 seconds = 713.75 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 102 MB in 3.05 seconds = 33.40 MB/sec

What version of hal are you using?

HTH,
David
