I'm not entirely clear on what you mean by "this" here, but most 
Intel-based machines need some degree of poking in order to make the 
screen come back. The "right" way to do this is probably to have the 
default be POSTing and then restoring the VBE state, and then allow that 
to be overridden by FDI files.
