Yes, that sounds like a much better plan (sorry, I may have been unclear 
- Sonys require brightness changes to be done by software, whereas HPs 
and Dells send keycodes but also change the brightness in hardware. I'll 
try to code up something to let you find out what the current brightness 
is on HPs - I've got the specs around here somewhere)
