Firewire devices, give up

Hi all,
I did a complete hal research on devices
(http://www.digg.com/linux_unix/Ubuntu_Hardware_Research) I managed to
get around 500 submissions who had HAL installed, typical user sample.
The problem is that EVERY iee1394 device has a product id of 0, so I
can't use firewire devices at all. there is no way to determine what
the hell a device is supposed to be. I was looking to see if there
were any methods that allowed me to query dbus for this information
but I can't find anything.
Alas I will put in a check to reject any firewire device with a
product id of '0' which unfortunately means every firewire device
under hal. I hope this was just a small bug that you got fixed and
later additions I will find these devices appear again in the listings
(as a side note, I might be able to hack out the id from the product
name when it's unknown i.e. "Unknown (0x056DA)" but when the device is
identified it'll be rejected :-/)
I'd be most greatful if anyone who knows of a way round this problem
to contact me; although my emails tend to fall on deaf ears concerning
ieee1394.
Best Regards, Martin Owens
