This looks like a kernel oops to me and if this happen you have to reboot your 
machine. This is not a HAL problem.

Only for interrest - please provide the output of:

1) cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT1/state ; echo "return: $?"
2) grep . /proc/acpi/battery/* -r
