Auto Mount Storage Devices

What is the best method these days to auto mount usb/firewire devices
when plugged in?

>From some research, I found ck-launch-session is related in some way to
this?  I'm using Gentoo and from what I'm hearing, if I'm in plugdev,
things *should* be auto mounting already?

I've enjoyed using gnome-volume-manager for the past years, but have
decided to use DWM (a small window manager) instead of Gnome to reserve
system resources for other tasks.
