I ran my code tonight and got:

        OpenGL version:         3.0 Mesa 19.2.0-devel (git-af0de6b 2019-05-27
bionic-oibaf-ppa)
        OpenGL vendor:          Intel Open Source Technology Center
        OpenGL renderer:        Mesa DRI Intel(R) HD Graphics (Coffeelake 3x8
GT3) 
        GLSL vertex     :       25,099 us
        GLSL fragment   :      141,915 us
        GLSL linking    :    2,764,600 us
        GLSL shader loaded

The vertex shader is a little more complex than the trivial one before but the
fragment shader is the same.

The CPU is the faster i7-8559U however, congratulations on killing this bug.
