Ok, I fail to see any differences. Can you please boot with modesetting disable
(i915.modeset=0) and use the vesa X driver to set up the 800x600 resolution.
Then grab the output of the intel_reg_dumper tool (please grab the latest
version from http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/app/intel-gpu-tools/). Then also
grab the same output when trying to set up the 800x600 resolution with kms.
Hopefully comparing the reg dumps will shed some light on this issue.
