The issue with interpreting 0 as off in the ddx is that it is only definitely
true for intel_backlight. For an ACPI backlight, 0 means the low brightness as
defined by the firmware which may be a valid setting that the user requests. My
only suggestion is to shout at whatever userspace is setting the backlight to 0
after turning off the display and asking them whether they are serious?
