Hello,
I'd like to report that I've had the exact same problem with my no-name laptop.
I made a clean install of CentOS 6 (from DVD), and then installed kernel-ml
(because it had a wifi driver that I wanted, over the normal kernel).
Interestingly, suspend/resume does not work as per original poster of the bug,
the boot sequence always used text-mode, the /etc/X11/xorg.conf only has one
section with a "vesa" driver and my /etc/grub.conf has "nomodeset" set to both
kernel & kernel-ml lines.
