Yesterday morning I upgraded to the latest Ubuntu kernel 3.13.0-45 at 6:30am.
Almost exactly 1 1/2 days later the system froze again with:

kernel: [106482.820016] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... render ring idle

Although it's 'frozen' about 11 times since the last time I saw the above this
is the first time it's popped up since the 17th of Jan.
