Interesting. What's your display setup like? Do you have a dock in between the
U3415W and the laptop? 

You mention in one of your earlier comments "u3415w only turns back on when
logging into GNOME." Is that true with the latest drm-tip too? i.e., the U3415W
is in power save mode starting from boot to logging into the desktop
environment? And it works fine after logging in?
