1. I checked the GPU-related UEFI settings. Setting the vague "Share memory" to
any number as opposed to "Auto" does not resolve the issue.

2. Commenting out the "if (ifbdev->vma)" in intel_fbdev_output_poll_changed()
does indeed turn the screen back on and fixes the issue on the machine!
