I'd like to see full dmesg from boot, i.e. add log_buf_len=4M or similar and
attach dmesg command output. Keep the drm.debug option.

What does this print for each case after booting:

$ grep -d skip "" /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/*

What do you mean brightness can't be adjusted? Please be more elaborate. Please
try the sysfs interface directly, 'echo X >
/sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness' where X is some number between
0 and max_brightness.

Does the backlight start working after a suspend/resume or a modeset?
