Retested with 5.0.12, bug is still present, backlight control fails & excessive
power consumption and/or battery damage caused by excessive wear occurs with
statically linked kernel on cherrytrail-based HW.

The workaround based on enabling loadable module support, crippling userspace
and system architecture to support module loading (which is unfortunately not
allowed in some cases) and delayed loading of i915 still works, but better
workaround seems to be to replace any low-power Atom based systems with
ARM-based competition these days.

Please consider moving affected drivers to Staging area of kernel sources. Such
step could attract some support & help, which is obviously needed here.
