One of my Mandriva colleagues just mentioned a similar sounding problem
to me on IRC. I'm not 100% sure as he wasn't as detailed as your
description but I think it could be the same problem.
I had a look at the git changelog as our 903 version worked fine for him
and there have only been 3 commits that actually changed any code since
then! It seems fro him, reverting this commit fixed things:
