[Libdlo] Still tearing my hair out here...

Hi James,

I've not run 9.10. Using 9.04 now, and will likely skip to newer
alpha/beta versions of gentoo, redhat (to get more kernel/gdm
developers engaged) and Ubuntu 10.04 (April release; will be LTS,
supported until 2013 on the desktop). Unfortunately, drowning in
distros, none of which are really thinking about usb displays yet, so
have to be running the latest stuff to have a chance of feedback.

If you're not even getting a green screen on 9.10, my first guess
would be a conflict between the version of udlfb that already ships
with Ubuntu 9.10, and the newer module you're trying to install over
it. udlfb in Ubuntu 9.10 is the version in the staging area of the
kernel tree. It has very limited mode support, which may make it not
work on many displays.

To test this theory, you could add a "blacklist udlfb" line to one of
the /etc/modprobe.conf files (or create a new one). And then compile
displaylink-mod and install it as usual. I'm sure there are other
ways, too, and could be some other problem.

Best wishes,
Bernie

Many hands make light work, and many distros.
