Hi Eric,

The problem is at the xorg level. fbdev is not even trying to use
/dev/fb0 for some reason.

I'd check /var/log/Xorg.0.log (or Xorg.1.log, etc) to find what's
wrong.  Otherwise I have no other suggestions.
