New code available in git

Hello,

Could be that I'm blowing a planned announcement now, but I just thought
there might be others following this list who are interested in this
without checking git regularily...

I just noticed that ttuttle made an initial commit of working code a
couple of days ago, now with basic support for client ID allocation and
release.  Looks very promising to me.
